Having a Portable Air Compressor and Battery Charger is Cheap Insurance

There she is stranded alone in the parking lot. Two small children press their noses up against the cold December glass. They’re wondering why Mommy is so upset and why they haven’t started home.

The woman looks around for someone to help. She wonders, “what happened to my car? It started this morning before we went to the mall.”

Does this sound familiar to you? It happened to my wife once. It was really frustrating for both of us. I was out of town on business and we had just recently moved to the area and had no one to call.

Fortunately a good Samaritan came by and helped her. She had one of those portable air compressor and battery charger units in her trunk. She went straight to my wife’s car connected the clamps to the terminals and my wife’s car started right up.

My wife went on and on about how neat and compact this device was. I decided to look into it further especially since I didn’t want her to be in this situation again. It turns out that for around $100 or less (depending on what features and how powerful it is) we could keep one of these gadgets in my wife’s trunk. That’s cheap insurance to keep yourself or a loved one from being stranded if you ask me.

There are several different makes and models and may offer different options. Here is a summary of some items to look for:

    Emergency Starting

For the most bang for your buck get a system that offers the most cranking amps available. Many systems are available that offer between 250 to 375 amps. This high amperage will allow for starting a completely drained battery.

    Air Compressor

Although you can buy them without an air compressor having one with your battery charger for your trunk makes sense. For emergencies this device can inflate a flat tire in less than a few minutes. For slow leaks this may buy you a little more mileage to get to the nearest tire service shop. You can use this to inflate your beach toys too!

    Work Light

Having both hands free makes hooking up a compressor charger unit less troublesome especially at night. A built in work light is like having a third hand. Just set the charger on the engine or side of the compartment to give light to what you are doing (just make sure to put the charger back on the ground before starting the engine.)

    Reverse Polarity Alarm

One of the most important things to be mindful of when using an automotive battery charger is making sure the clamps are connected correctly. Knowing which terminal or post is positive and which is negative is less of an issue with a reverse polarity alarm. This handy indicator may save the battery and lessen the risk of explosion for the user.

If you have loved ones that drive at all, getting a portable air compressor and battery charger really is cheap insurance from getting stranded. There are many kinds available for all budgets and they are simple to use so get one today!

Portable Air Compressor and Battery Charger

Having the proper spare parts is not always very convenient, but there are some items that your car should not do without. How many times didn’t you need, for example, an air compressor to inflate a flat tire?

Or how many times you were in a hurry and you forgot your car’s headlights on and when you returned to your car you noticed that your battery is dead? Let’s face it, problems like these can happen to anybody, but fortunately, solving them is fairly easy. All you need is a portable air compressor and a portable battery charger.

While some thirty years ago battery chargers were large devices that required an always-on power supply, you can find nowadays portable battery chargers the size of a small suitcase.

It is a very convenient way to help your dead battery start you car if you ever need to. All you have to do is to power on the device, attach the clams to your car’s battery and voila, you can now start your engine.

Do not worry if you do not posses a lot of technical knowledge. The portable battery chargers you can buy in any specialized auto parts shop or in large supermarkets include all the necessary equipment (the long cables to connect the device to your car) and all the necessary instructions.

The battery charger’s manufacturer includes a very detailed, graphical representation of all the steps you need to do in order to start the battery charger, connect it to your car’s battery and charge it.

The prices for a very efficient battery charger are not scary, as a fairly good one will cost around $100 or even less, depending on its power and included features. Because a battery charger is very compact, you can find a place for it in the trunk of any car.

So why risk being stranded in a foreign city asking for help from strangers, when you can always have a battery charger at your disposal?

Another important item you should always carry with you is a portable air compressor. A portable air compressor is able to inflate a tire from zero in under two minutes and it does wonders if you ever need to inflate one or more of your car tires.

It is not mandatory to have a flat to need such a portable air compressor. Traveling for many hours at a row without stopping can heat your tires very much and if the rubber in your tire is old or worn out, it may start to loose air.

Driving with a flat tire is very dangerous, as you will loose braking capabilities as well overall car stability and handling. You will notice that one of your tires is running low on air if the car does not have a straight trajectory. These things can happen to anyone, anywhere. In addition, if you happen to get a flat tire in the middle of a country road and you do not have a spare with you, you are stranded until someone with an air compressor comes to your rescue.

Portable air compressors are very cheap (you can even buy one for less than $30 if you look in the right place) and they are very compact (most of them are the size of a bread) so keeping one in your trunk is no big deal.

Will this 12v power inverter run this table top fan using my Cessna152′s 28v DC system with 24v,14amp battery?

I’m a pilot of a Cessna 152 in Texas. The aircraft does not have an air conditioner and it gets extremely hot during the Texas summers. I found this link on youtube of how to build a portable air conditioner using an ice chest, aquarium pump and table top fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjY-8FN1myU.

I have found these parts online to build the sucker but I don’t know enough about volts, amps and watts to know if it will all work or not. (My airplane has a 28v DC system with 60 amp alternator and a 24v 14amp battery.) :

If this system will not work, what type of equipment would I need to look for so that it does work?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!
