Christ Pleccy, why are you even debating whether or not an air pump sucks air? Was that even in question here? Besides, I know how my air pump works, and in my opinion, the movement of the diaphragm causes air suction.

So I got my Betta fish a new tank so he can have a bigger place to swim and have oxygen, the problem is that the air pump that came with the tank is extremely loud. Theres no way i can go to sleep with it on during night, i have to turn it off which is bad for my fish so is there any suggestion or quieter pump i can get?

oh and the pump i got is called (im guessing) Hawkeye 201.
