aerate the water without the air pump
while i was fixing some leak on my waterfall that i have to turn off the pump, i discover a new way to aerate the pond just by using your water pump. not only that it aerate the water, it also increase the amount of water flow out of the pump. As water pushed down on the water surface, it drag the air on the surface and push it down with it, and when i put the hose and point it to a tube, it create a sink hold if the tube is placed right under the water surface, thus cause more water to get suck into it. basically i have my water pump pump water into my skimmer and it pushed out the bottom drain. Hope you guys will find it useful, i’ll use this idea on my next pond and definitely will not buy the air pump thing.

i was just cleaning my pond and figured this out. i have an external pump that suck water from the skimmer and the bottom drain. during cleaning, i shut off my external pump to clean the filter. during this time, i have a submersible pump to circulate the water. when i run the pump into the skimmer from just above the water surface, the air and water that goes with it is escaping thru the bottom drain, thus i get air bubble coming from the bottom drain. as u can see from the video.
Really not sure what you are doing. I couldn’t see your entire pond set-up with the video you took. Seem to me you were just mimicking what a water fall or water fountain does. It pushes air into the pond and aerates the water at same time. Don’t even know if you have a water fall. Don’t know if your pond was pre-formed or built with liner. Does your pond have a water fill valve? A pump shut-off device? Your skimmer won’t work right w/o the pump being inside it.
